Letter:
To Toba Tek Singh,
This letter is to ask
you what the mind set of the people was during the partition. What kind of
trauma are the people going through? I believe that it wouldn’t have been calm
for the people during the partition. The rage built within them and the
confusion created has led to a deep thought of survival. Many people being
confused whether they would end up losing their home land and indeed their
loved ones. This instance can be found when a Sikh was deeply pained when he
found that his love who lived in Amritsar would form part in India. Hearing
this would have made any person grief striven. The British who focused on
dividing India certainly made a big move for their success in dividing India.
REPORT:
I’d like to justify my creative expression on
TobaTekSingh as a land. I’ve chosen a social media platform (instagram) as it
being in 21st century has a great impact on bringing spotlight to
the past events. This helps people to understand and contemplate things in a
better way. Creative way of expressing things is necessary than just being a
boring conversation. To reflect light on our history makes it informative and
people will be aware of their surroundings and how the past connects the
future. Living in a world where social media plays a huge role is the reason
why is chose a social media platform to justify my thoughts in a creative way.
By this a large number of people can be aware of TobaTekSingh and the incidents
that took place during the partition.
I’d like to start with my story as addressing Toba
Tek Singh as a land of ‘Unkown
Mystery’
The partition has had a major political as well as
cultural effect on the people of these two countries and in doing so, it too
has affected my own understanding of the region as a student in this course
trying to get a picture of the situation without much context. The chaos
between these countries has been a major impact on people of the past during
the partition. The partition did not leave this place
untouched and unscarred. Being an important railway station, Toba Tek Singh not
only saw violence, but also the trains carrying corpses. The
beautiful history of Toba Tek Singh, which is a source of pride for city residents,
is not just what they have inherited but is what they are struggling to
preserve. Their struggle is a source of hope. We cannot undo the past, the
trauma of Partition continues to survive in several forms, but we can
definitely make up for it by sowing seeds of peace and harmony.
The partition between India and Pakistan during 1947
, has been miserable in people’s hearts. Many families got separated. The story
Toba Tek Singh mainly shows chaos and the differences between people as Hindus
and Muslims who were frame as lunatics and were also forced to move from their
land. Being completely confused about what their future holds for them, and how
burdensome that situation was for the people. Amidst them we get to know about
the story of Bishan Singh who was
waiting to know where Toba Tek Singh was situated. The separation as two new
countries shows the historical evidence where the British too had their hands
in this partition. ‘Divide and Rule’ , indeed the British succeeded. As the
context I have chosen say an ‘Unknown Mystery’, here Bishan Singh is not aware
of where Toba Tek Singh is situated. He learns about it when he questions the
guard and the guard replies it is in Pakistan. Puzzled by this he is left alone
along with the people where no one heard his voice.
The tragic end of partition has certainly left us in
a state of sorrow. If the decisions made by the political leaders were absolute
and intelligible, there would be unity and no such havoc between people even
today. While India was slowly picking up from poverty, this incident caused a
major hit on people. In India we still blame Muslims for dreadful incidents and
not the society. The society we are in today is the seed sown from the past. Our past incidents have indeed played a major role in the society we live in. It’s
all about time we can count on.
THANK YOU
