Report

The creative way of expression I have chosen is poster making and a covering letter with voice recording. I feel this mode of creative expression is suitable as people often feel bored in reading long textual content. Pictorial representation and voice recording helps in better remembrance of facts than trying to acquire or recalling things through reading books. Posters are usually eye catching.

In this creative mode of expression, I have described Toba Tek Singh as a person fighting for his land. Toba Tek Singh, the person who was ready to depart his life for his country. In this modern world where people are equipped with electronic gadgets having no time to look for some historical books and get to know about the history, I felt that posters and voice recording of the letter is an appropriate mode of creative expression for addressing Toba Tek Singh.

In order to reimagine history a creative mode is important as I have mentioned earlier that people are able to connect with it easily and remember things throughout their lives. Reading a historical text does not convey a clear picture which a creative expression like poster making, sketching, short film, etc. could do. The movie Bharat included the element of partition. Through this movie people were able to get a broader understanding about what partition was, the pain of being separated from their family members and the struggles faced by the people etc. By recreating the history of partition of India and Pakistan, the movie depicted how a creative mode can help the public in gaining better knowledge. I believe that to communicate ideas and views keeping in mind a larger group of audience creative mode of expression is the best option.

The historical context I have selected is about the partition and the confusion in the minds of people during the time of partition. The people were confused regarding what to do, should they run away to India or remain in Pakistan. The violence caused during the time was the saddest thing. It became a war like condition the Muslim started killing the Sikh, and Punjabi’s of Pakistan. The men of the family were unaware as to how to protect their children and family. The partition of India and Pakistan caused fear in the minds of Hindu and Sikh people of Pakistan that they would have to leave Pakistan and go to India which was totally a different place for them. We know that when we are born and brought up at a certain place, we become attach to it. Our feelings, emotions, childhood memories all become involved with it and when we are asked to leave our motherland we do not want to go away at any cost. As it has been said that “Marjaenge Mitjaenge lekin apni mati ka sath nahin chhodenge” that is we will die but we will never leave the land we are part of. The migration, confusion and violence were the main ideas which were depicted in the story of Toba Tek Singh.

If tragic partition would have not taken place then things would have been totally different. India and Pakistan would have been a one united country without any riots regarding Jammu and Kashmir. The standard of living would increase and the economic condition would be in a better position. People would have lived happily with their family members and treating other religious community people as their brother and sisters. There wouldn’t have been any sort of terrorism and surgical strikes. Many of the Jawans in the army wouldn’t have to sacrifice their lives for the safety of the country.  India would have been a wealthier and super power country.
