In any work, if the mode of reflection is effective, then the viewers can understand what we are trying to convey to them. In this note in mind, the most creative mode that i have taken is poster making which becomes very essential in historical reimagination. Through poster making a pictorial view can be brought to the viewers. Creativity can bring in new possibilities in our minds. It can also facilitate many alternative way of thinking. Though creative mode is very challenging it can create a sense of intercultural connections and build a confidence among us while reimagining a history. It can grab attention of viewers and shows a way to think in a different manner.
I HAVE TAKEN TOBA TEK SINGH AS A PERSON. In August, 1947, when, after three hundred years in India, the British finally left, the subcontinent was partitioned into two independent nation states: Hindu-majority India and Muslim-majority Pakistan. Immediately, there began one of the greatest migrations in human history, as millions of Muslims trekked to West and East Pakistan (the latter now known as Bangladesh) while millions of Hindus and Sikhs headed in the opposite direction. The birth of India and pakistan gave a path to a mass migration and ethnic violence that left a bitter legacy to the history of poor people who had gone through a lot of pain.
Based on this partition theme, Saadat Hasan Manto wrote a fiction story 'TOBA TEK SINGH'. Drawing from what was though in the class, this short story reached a higher popularity and indeed was much strongest story to motherland in the context of partition. This short story was set a few years after partition. When the government of India and pakistan decided to exchange their inmates of mental asylums with each other like they did with the sane people. All the inmates were insane but few were little educated and some were quite murderers.
AMONG the inmates Bishan singh who was called as TOBA TEK SINGH was a pan shop owner who use to sell sweet pans near a Sikh temple in the city of Lahore. He used to go to the Gurdwar temple in the afternoon to sell some sweet pans to the people to visit and go back from the temple. He displayed a small shop with creative design and spreaded a cloth around a table with a variety of pans on it. Thus TOBA TEK SINGH was famous for this tasty and delicious pan. Many people used to appreciate him for this hardwork. The only rule that Bishan singh had was he used to give his pan freely to those who only visited the Sikh temple. this act created a tension and agitation among the muslims which lead him to stay in asylum for about three years. This was the main reason for him to stay among the mentally challenged people. After partition, BISHAN SINGH died in the no mans land between the borders of India and Pakistan.
When India and Pakistan was asked to share their lunatics, if the guard as allowed him to stay in Pakistan, then he would have been lived his life happily by selling the pan near the temple. Now he would have become a richest person in the town only by his hard work and struggles. But instead he was made to stand in the no mans land for about 15 years and he fell straight down to the ground and died. WE have lost a precious soul because of some people's joke. He should have been lived with good health and wealth by having some other branches of pan shops through out INDIA AND PAKISTAN.
