REST IN PEACE

Is born in different RELIGION and lived in different PLACE is our mistake.

How fair is it for someone to force anyone to leave their house and go to their neighbours house for their survival.

I wanted to Express toba tek Singh as a person who is expressing his feelings on how it feels for everyone who is being forced to leave their home place For social cause.

Toba tek Singh’s death on no-man’s land indicates that he is opposing partition and intends to live in harmony

the hardships that those families had to undergo while migration . EXTREMELY PAINFUL!

Nobody could understand how could this decision be taken by govt. without consent of the people !!The biggest irony is, that the majority didn’t want this partition at all (except for the politicians and opportunists). When people lived peacefully in there respective place of birth what was the need of force migration.Loss of their lands and home. Also money in form of cash and gold. One can carry only a limited amount of cash and gold while traveling to far off places. The concept of banks was not prevalent in those days.

Separation from relatives. Some children got separated from their parents.

Loss of jobs. Many had to find new jobs or settle for low paying jobs to feed their family. Such was the urgency of matters.Health issues due to poor nutrition. Most people were starved and weak. Prone to life threatening ailments. Many children were not able to make the journey. Partition took place in summers. The heat took its toll on people.

Constant fear of thugs and goons. There was a complete breakdown of law and order machinery.

Some effects of partition were psychological. Grief and sorrow over loss of close friends and family. Trauma due to loss of prosperity. Plunged into poverty from being financially well off.

Most people in the world have had the experience of leaving the place where they grew up. The risks to their safety and life were so great that they felt they had no choice but to leave and seek safety outside their country because their own government cannot or will not protect them from those dangers.

Partition brought separation of families and nationalities. People became stranger in their won houses and land overnight. This was particularly true for Bishen Singh who could not even find his town of Toba Tek Singh because no one knew in which country it would end up.

He had his house in Pakistan but his home was in India as his entire family had relocated to India. This conundrum and conflict is something that generations after Independence had to counter and heal from.

People are being displaced based on their religion as the only marker. Which is an indecisive line to follow as it raises issues of inequality. Some of the patients in the asylum identify themselves as Indian while others believe themselves to be Pakistani. Yet their religion is deciding their fate when religion is only a part of an individual’s identity and some people may choose not to be defined by their religion. Though in the case that applies to the story. No option is being given. Bureaucracy is defining or redefining who a person may be and where they will live. Unfortunately for those in the asylum. No one has a voice as to where they might like to go. Just as their freedom has been taken away from them so too has their voice.
