REPORT WRITING

Posters, a way in which we make the unknown, known. Posters are one of the innovative and interesting creative expression one could go for. By seeing pictures, paintings, stickers on the poster people will get attracted towards to know what is it all about. It gets us way more curious. And my topic is all about violence caused to women during partition time. I have considered Toba Tek Singh society filled with dominant men curbing the rights of women and making them suffer. I thought it being put in the form of a writing as a paragraph would gain no attention and interest because most of the people are not used to reading long paragraphs, it will be boring to few and will end up losing the objective of writing. When such topics are put through a poster where there is collection of pictures firstly it will attract each and every individual to see what is it all about and also pictures convey things more than what writing does, since this is my topic which every individual should be aware of because it is very important to know about the violence caused to women in those days how Toba Tek Singh society was hell to them and how it is being continued till date and here I chose poster as my mode of creative expression. Be it a boy or a girl everyone should be aware of the harm caused to the women because at the end of the day regardless of the gender we all are humans who is consistently striving to bring possible changes to our society. I would be able to convey the message effectively to an illiterate or an individual who is not familiar with English through poster which may seem quite difficult if its any other mode of expression. The poster will make him/her understand how the society was during partition by just looking at those pictures, therefore fulfilling my objective. These are the reasons why I opted poster as a mode of creative expression.

Creative expression the word itself conveys that it is being creative. Whenever something creative is done than just writing in a pen and paper many individuals may get attracted to the former. And when it comes to historical reimagination, being creative is the most important aspect there. Because in the first place majority of them feel history is boring and it is too tedious to read and grasp things. So to get rid of that, make people get to know more about their country’s past and to prove the statement  false that history is boring using creative mode of expression can be the best way. Creative expression consists of painting, coloring, writing, making music, crafts etc which will help one self in changing their views and opinions on a particular thing effortlessly. So here creative expression can increase one’s interest and curiosity towards history. Creative expression can have greater impact on a reader’s mind more than what an essay or book does.

The unending story of violence against women was also present during the partition where Toba Tek Singh being a society having completely dominating men, women were solely seen as pawns in conflict between men or different groups. They treated violence against women as violence against their community, family and nation. Women were the who had suffered a lot during this partition time. India or Pakistan both were prevailing the same toxic masculine culture who just wanted to take revenge for which they would cross any boundaries. It is sad that women became a major weapon to them during the fight of India and Pakistan. An incident took place in the partition time where a girl called Ayesha was urged by male members in her family to commit suicide rather to live and face violence in hands of approaching muslim women. This was the scenario which was existing at the time of partition. Here men were men regardless of Indian or Pakistani. The Indian and Pakistani government were also no less. They decided to claim hindu and muslim women respectively, in order to create a state with coherent religious identity. The women during partition were not even given a minimum respect and were not supposed to make decisions. The resolution was passed by constituent assembly asserting that “people should be given equal opportunity to live life of their choice” but women “must be restored to their homes”. The freedom of the women were just curbed over by the male dominant society, Toba Tek Singh. There was no choice left for the women belonging to  Toba Tek Singh. Whatever men say would be the final decision. No justice, No respect, No freedom for women, they were just like slaves in the hands of men dominance of the so called Toba Tek Singh society.

If only there was today’s future (i.e present) in the past there would have been unimaginable changes. Women at least would have been treated as humans rather than treating them worse than an animal. If that happened, by now women could have reached great heights than expected. And would have led a path where men would continue following them, which is currently happening. Therefore the future (i.e present) which we live in would be a much safer and better place for women to live in. Secondly if at all government included policies in the past it would be easier for women to make decisions of their own choice and there wouldn’t be any necessity to fight for it in the name of women empowerment today. They wouldn’t have faced struggles and humiliations in order to accomplish their dreams and live their life as they desired.

Here, Toba Tek Singh all dominant men part of the world who treated women as mere objects, who could be exploited for their own gains and can be transported like any other commodity, and hence this terrible mindset seems to be continuing even today. As we can say the world has still not become a better place for women to live in.  And all this could have changed if our ancestors had set an ideal example during partition period instead they did set an example that how a fellow human being should not be treated. They showed a cruel picture which made us and the world realise of how we need to paint a better picture for women.

Hence, when I refer Toba Tek Singh in the present world it refers to all the men out there who still believe they have a upper hand and those who wrong women in all possible ways. It also refers to those women of society who not only consider themselves inferior to men, but also believe in pulling other fellow human beings down. Hence all we have to fight for is the extinction of Toba Tek Singh for betterment and equality of women in this world.
