                                             TOBA TEK SINGH

 

a)  Art is a profound way of expressing our thoughts and ideas. Artists feel this intensely. I chose poster making as a way to depict my thoughts and story about Toba Tek Singh. Poster is a derivative of art. It is a more effective way to represent our innovative skills. Usually people take pictures from Google and buckle them up to form posters. Well here i have blended both sketching  and comic mode to make it creative rather than pasting pictures. I preferred to choose this as it seems attractive since it stands as something new, where in a world of Google and Youtube , art still stands as one of the most creative mode. The story is based on historical subject. One advantage of poster is that we can illustrate the thoughts, dialogues, preaching, slogans in an effective and efficient manner. Comic is a  type of art which likely seeks the attention of 12- 20 age group people. It sparks the interest among them and thrives them to empower themselves with more knowledge. Thus, art is one of my favourite emotion and yes, I chose it as a mode to portray this story.

 

b) A creative mode of expression is likely what people usually crave for!. Anything portrayed in a creative manner would attract people more and drive them towards it. History serves to be as something that took place in the past. None of us exactly know what has happened over the centuries. We have come through historical incidents in our studies but historical reimagination is something different. One cannot write their own history but can rather make a story of their imagination. At times like these, creative mode of expression is most appealing. One can enhance his imagination and creative skills through this. One who is fond of history and has the urge of representing historical incidents of their imagination and innovation, then creative mode of expression is the most dependent mode.

 

c0 History is the real life incidents that has happened in the past. Partition was one of the most insane act that took place in 1947. The results of this partition was even worse. People dismantled completely, families shattered, death of millions was one vigorous act in history. I have used this context as a base for my story of Toba Tek Singh. Originally known as Bishan Singh, was one sportive youngster who was a patriotic soul. The partition had a major impact on his mind which completely shattered his patriotism to the nation. Rather he spotted himself to be a criminal later by committing crimes due to the mental trauma caused by the riots and chaos. Due to his vigorous actions, his family starts to distance him. This drifting away by his own bloodline then had a psychotic breakdown in his head thereby driving him to become a lunatic. He used to mutter in the mental asylum that he tends to go to his homeland Toba Tek Singh. Later he also considers himself as Toba Tek Singh because during his crime time, he used to call himself he crime leader of Toba Tek Singh. Hence the mental trauma intended him to believe that more .Hence I would personify Toba Tek Singh as both person and place.

 

d) The possible consequences could had been different later. Maybe it would had affected him more if he had been taken to his homeland later. The question that arises is whether he stays or dies. He was insanely affected by the other people in the mental asylum too. He would had also committed more crimes later if he was given the freedom. He could had even threatened or killed his family for drifting him apart. A man with a good mental state of mind tends to commit mistakes , then what could we expect from a psychopath!. There might be slight chances that he would turn good. That also remains to be unexpected. Hence we can understand how heart breaks can affect a person. Heart breaks doesn't mean to imply only about relationships, it can also occur when someone loves something immensely which can be one's love towards his nation. Neglecting the consequences, the main purpose  of the story is to bring into light, the unseen tragedies of innocent lives and to stay united as always.
